How is GPA calculated?

Each course earns its unit value multiplied by the grade point. Add all of those grade points, then divide by the total units. For example, an A (5 points) in a 3-unit course and a B (4 points) in a 2-unit course gives (15 + 8) ÷ 5 = 4.60.

What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?

GPA covers one semester or session. CGPA is cumulative: it combines the grade points and units from every semester you add, then divides once. This calculator does that correctly, rather than averaging the individual GPAs.

Does this support the 4.0 scale?

Yes. Choose the Nigerian 4.0 scale for A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1 and F = 0. If your school uses different bands, switch to a custom scale and set the points yourself.

How is degree classification worked out?

For the 5.0 scale: 4.50 and above is First Class, 3.50–4.49 Second Class Upper, 2.40–3.49 Second Class Lower, 1.50–2.39 Third Class and 1.00–1.49 Pass. For the 4.0 scale: 3.50+ First Class, 3.00–3.49 Second Class Upper, 2.00–2.99 Second Class Lower and 1.00–1.99 Third Class. Your institution's rules always take precedence.

Are non-graded or carry-over courses included?

Only courses with both units and a grade are included. Leave the grade blank for a course you are still taking, and it will not affect the result.

Is my academic data saved?

No. Everything stays on your device, and refreshing the page clears it. The PDF is generated locally, so no course or result data is uploaded.

Is this an official transcript?

No. It is a useful calculation and a clear statement of the figures you entered, but only your school can issue an official transcript or confirm your final classification.
